This paper, presented at iEMSs 2012, introduces a methodology for characterizing intelligent environmental decision support systems, aimed at enhancing decision-making in environmental management.

A visual representation of decision support systems in environmental contexts

In this paper, we propose a methodology to characterize Intelligent Environmental Decision Support Systems (IEDSS) by identifying their key features and improving their output. Through a comprehensive analysis of cognitive tasks and system layers, the methodology provides a framework to describe IEDSS and general Intelligent Decision Support Systems (IDSS). The proposed form documents the characteristics of these systems and has been tested on 18 research papers, including 6 focused on IEDSS. This preliminary evaluation demonstrates the methodology’s potential in real-world environmental applications.
